Suntou Susso, Gambian Superstars set for debut UK performance in London
Award-winning Gambian musician and kora player Suntou Susso will perform with the Gambian Superstars in their first UK concert at Kings Place on 14 June as part of the 2026 Songlines Encounters series.

The performance forms part of the global music programme’s 15th anniversary celebrations and will focus on Mandinka musical traditions through a contemporary performance approach.
Born into a griot lineage in The Gambia dating back several centuries, Susso has built a career around preserving and reinterpreting Mandinka musical heritage. The upcoming concert will feature an ensemble of Gambian musicians alongside UK-based saxophonist Tomoya Forster.
The group’s performances combine traditional instruments and musical forms with contemporary influences. Organisers said the set will incorporate kora, balafon, percussion, drums, bass, keyboards and saxophone, drawing from West African folk traditions while incorporating elements of funk and jazz.
“This concert means so much. It'll be the very first time The Superstars have played in the UK,” Susso said. “Bringing them to the UK and performing together to London audiences is an amazing feeling. To do it at a prestigious venue, and to be chosen by Songlines is an honour.”
The London performance will also support Susso’s album, Jaliya Silokang: The Path of a Griot, which explores the role of griots as storytellers, historians and cultural custodians.
Following the London concert, the group is scheduled to undertake a broader UK tour during the summer and autumn period. Dates currently announced include performances in Milton Keynes, Glasgow, Lancashire, Warwick, the West Midlands, Dorset and Penzance, with additional dates expected to be announced.
The concert is presented by The Whitehouse as part of the Songlines Encounters programme, which focuses on international and cross-cultural music performances.
