E.L: Ghanaians need to support their own music

In a recent interview on 3 Music Flava, the rapper compared Ghana's music industry with Nigeria's. “I think the Nigerians are still kicking our ass and there is so much room for improvement,” he said. “When you go to a show and you hear an Afrobeat song, 10 percent is Ghanaian while 90 percent is Nigerian. It hurts but I think there is so much room for improvement. Ghanaians need to support each other when it comes to their music.”

In the interview, E.L also discussed his fourth album, Waves, which is slated for released in August. “Waves is going to be a testament to what I feel when I listen to West African music comparing that against the current crop of acts and songs,” the rapper said. “They won’t be many features on it because I want it to be centred on who I am as an artist. It has 13 songs which were recorded on the road because I didn’t want to do a studio.”

Signed to BBnZ, E.L has released three albums and addressed rumours concerning his relationship with the record label. “I have no idea where the BBnZ rumour came from. I haven’t parted ways with anybody because I’m still trying to make a decision concerning the future for me and my whole team.”

On inspiration for Waves, E.L said, “Most of the songs were recorded in hotel rooms, setups and stuffs like that but it’s really well made. I also like that fact that I was able to get inspiration from so many places.”
