DJ Kent added to Nigerian Afrobeat Meets SA House line-up
South African producer DJ Kent will share the stage with Nigerian Afrobeat musician Dele Sosimi and local dance duo Black Motion at Keleketla Library in Johannesburg on 3 November.
Titled Nigerian Afrobeat Meets SA House, the event will be hosted by the Music In Africa Foundation in partnership with Goethe-Institut, Siemens Stiftung and Keleketla Library.
The event will begin with an educational and interactive lecture on Afrobeat by the legendary Sosimi followed by live performances from Black Motion and DJ Kent.
With more than a decade as a producer under his belt, DJ Kent is no stranger to the South African house audience. The award-winning artist is known for his solo album The Weekent which reached gold status in South Africa after its release in 2013. He is also considered to be highly influential on young DJs, earning him the nickname King Kent.
Also a composer, the artist made waves with his single ‘Spin My World Around’ featuring The Arrows in 2013. His 2016 album Evolution X (10) has been described as an eclectic mix of unique styles accessible by a wide audience of listeners.
“This event aims to provide a platform for Africans to learn and embrace African music styles as well as to promote exchanges between musicians from all over the continent,” Music In Africa Foundation director Eddie Hatitye said.
The event is free of charge. Please note that seats are limited. If you would like to attend, RSVP to projects@musicinafrica.net by 25 October 2017.
