Call for applications: Studio Mashinani project in Kenya
The Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) is hiring staff for its Studio Mashinani project.
Studio Mashinani is a partnership between the national broadcaster and the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT). It seeks to develop the local creative industry by enabling young people to tap into their natural creative curiosity and inventiveness.
Three successful applicants will be selected to run three independent audio recording and creative production studios for the next three years in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu for purposes of recording quality audio music, commercials and jingles.
Interested individuals can apply in the positions of music producer, sound technician and music creative copywriter.
The application deadline is 25 September.
Music producer
Successful candidates will be expected to:
- Report on all matters regarding music works planned and undertaken in the respective studios.
- Coordinate the work of sourcing and rehearsing musicians, booking them for recording, developing soundtracks, and editing, mixing and mastering original CD copies.
Job requirements:
- Diploma in music production from a recognised institution.
- Must be conversant with editing Software such as Cool Edit Pro, Pro Tools and Adobe Audition for editing and production purposes.
- Must be fully conversant with Cubase Pro.
- Must have a certificate of good conduct.
- Conversant with contemporary and future trends and dynamics of the music industry.
- Must have good communication skills.
- Must be computer literate.
Sound technician
Successful candidates will be expected to:
- Operate, maintain and repair studio production equipment.
- Participate in the installation and testing of studio production equipment.
- Provide system support to the music producer/music creative copywriter.
Job requirements:
- Diploma in electronics/telecommunication technician course part 3.
- Must be computer literate.
- Must have a certificate of good conduct.
- Must have good communication skills.
Music creative copywriter
Successful candidates will be expected to:
- Check and enforce creative standards of music lyrics, soundtracks, instrumentation harmonious rendition and mixing of the musical works into professionally produced final master products.
- Duplicate whether in digital, CD or other approved formats.
- Ensure works are produced under KBC copyright, and that their users meet music quality and copyright policy requirements.
Job requirements:
- Diploma in music production from a recognised institution.
- In-depth understanding of media law and copyright law.
- Must be able to use editing software.
- Must be computer literate.
- Must have a certificate of good conduct.
