Apple Music offers four-month free trial with TikTok
Apple Music, in partnership with TikTok, is offering its new subscribers a four-month free trial of the service.
The offer is limited to iOS TikTok users and will be available until 4 January 2021.
The deal is second to Apple Music’s longest five-month offer through its music discovery platform Shazam. Apple Music typically offers a three-month free trial through various partners.
This is not the first time the two tech companies have joined forces on a deal. Earlier this year, Apple partnered with TikTok to showcase its iPhone 12 mini with TikTok creators. TikTok also curates a number of Apple Music playlists from the app.
TikTok has been gaining traction within the music streaming industry. In August, the short-form video app made a new deal with UnitedMasters, which will let users of the former platform distribute their music directly to other music streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music from within the tool. The move also made UnitedMasters the first music distribution company to be integrated into the TikTok platform.
The following month, TikTok partnered with US music distribution company TuneCore on a global service promotion that lets musicians upload their music to TikTok for free.
TikTok has about 500 million monthly active users. The Chinese-owned app is widely known as a music discovery springboard for viral hits by undiscovered and emerging artists such as Lil Nas X, Ambjaay and StaySolidRocky, among others.
The deal comes as US President Trump has been trying to ban TikTok. However, US district judges recently blocked the US Commerce Department from enforcing an executive order to ban the social media app.
Meanwhile, Spotify is looking to make a foray into the short-form video market. The music streaming service recently added a Snapchat Stories-like feature to its platform.
