Anthony Hamilton, Zonke and Joe to headline Women’s Day concert in Joburg
Grammy-winning American R&B stars Anthony Hamilton and Joe Thomas are set to perform together in South Africa for the first time as headliners of a special Women’s Day concert taking place on Saturday, 9 August 2025, at DP World Wanderers Stadium in Sandton, Johannesburg.
- Zonke is one of the headliners of the show.
The highly anticipated event, presented by Soulful Night SA and Vertex Events, will celebrate Women’s Day with a powerful lineup of international and local artists known for their vocal excellence, stage charisma, and heartfelt lyrics. The concert is scheduled to begin at 12.pm.
In South Africa, Women’s Day commemorates the historic 1956 march of around 20,000 women to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the apartheid government’s extension of pass laws to women. The day has since become a national occasion to reflect on the contributions of women to the country’s struggle for freedom and their ongoing impact on society.
Joining Hamilton and Joe on stage will be leading South African artists including Zonke, Sjava, and Vusi Nova. The blend of local and international acts promises a soulful, emotionally resonant experience that celebrates women through music.
“It’s an honour to be part of an event that not only brings great music to the stage but also acknowledges the strength and resilience of women,” organisers said.
Joe Thomas, known as Joe, rose to fame in the 1990s with a string of R&B classics, including ‘I Wanna Know’ and ‘All the Things (Your Man Won’t Do)’. He is recognised for his smooth vocals and romantic ballads, delivering a signature blend of love, vulnerability and melody that has earned him a loyal global following.
Anthony Hamilton, hailing from North Carolina, is a renowned neo-soul artist whose gritty, gospel-infused voice has garnered both critical and commercial acclaim. His breakthrough album, Comin’ from Where I’m From, featuring the title track and the hit single ‘Charlene’ , helped cement his status as one of the leading voices in contemporary soul.
The concert’s inclusion of Zonke, one of South Africa’s most revered soul musicians, adds a powerful local dimension to the bill. With her emotive songwriting and vocal strength, Zonke continues to inspire audiences across generations. Sjava, known for fusing traditional African sounds with modern R&B and hip-hop, and Vusi Nova, a staple in Afro-soul, further enrich the day’s celebration.
Tickets for the concert are available via Webtickets, Computicket, and selected retail outlets. Early booking is advised due to high demand.
