Afrobeats stars nominated for 2022 Soul Train Awards
Nigerian Afrobeats stars including Burna Boy, Wizkid, CKay, Tems and Fireboy DML have been nominated for this year’s Soul Train Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada, on 13 November.
The Soul Train Music Awards, presented by US TV channel BET, seek to honour outstanding works in African-American culture.
Burna Boy leads Africa’s contingent at the awards with four nods, namely for Best R&B/Soul Male Artist, Song of the Year, The Ashford and Simpson Songwriters Award and Video of the Year.
Other Africans shortlisted include Tems, who was nominated in the Best New Artist, Best R&B/Soul Female Artist and Best Collaboration categories, as well as Wizkid, who secured a nod in the Best Dance Performance and Best Collaboration categories for his effort on US singer Chris Brown’s ‘Call Me Every Day’. CKay and Fireboy DML will compete with other artists in the Best New Act category.
Meanwhile, Beyoncé and Mary J. Blige lead the 2022 Soul Train Awards 2022 with seven nominations each.
