The unveiling of the patchwork coincided with the official opening of the Tresor The Closet & Beyond and L’ Excellence Fashion Shop, a flagship of Tresor fashion at a colorful ceremony characterized by live band musical performance by Yususpha Ngum, the son of Musa Affia Ngum who passed away on October 11, 2015 after a successful performance at a night club in Dakar.
Killer Ace, a Gambia rapper currently based in Dakar also briefly performed at the show paying tribute and homage to Musa Affia Ngum.
The event was attended by Gambians and friends of The Gambia in Senegal including the acting Gambian Ambassador to Senegal. Aji Kumba Daffeh, a proprietress of the Tresor and L’ Excellence Fashion Shop, describes the event as a ‘success’. When asked what motivated them to come up with the “Yaye ak Baye Fall” collection, she said, ‘The idea behind the creation is to keep the legacy of the late Musa Ngum and provide some financial support to his family from the proceeds generated from the “Yaye ak Baye Fall” creation.
‘It’s an opportunity to also keep his legacy alive as one of his dreams was to see Gambia and Senegal becomes one country. We create this patch to honor his work and style. Musa was a great artist who contributed immensely to towards the music industry in Senegambia.
‘Yes, we will miss him, but we are so glad that he brought us Yusupha who is equally a great artist. I appeal to all Senegambians to support Yususpha Ngum. For he is not only the son of a legend but he is a legend himself,’ she added, fighting back tears.
Yusupha Ngum, the highlight of the event, did a spectacular performance which led to the dropping of tears of “joy and sorrow” from the guests - as he took them down memory lane to remember his late father Musa Ngum.
Yusupha described his late father as a “great man” whose legacy will always be fresh in the minds of Senegambians and the world at large. He said he is urging people to continue to pray for his dad and keep his legacy alive.
‘It is an honor to be invited here today to perform and witnesses the unveiling of a fashion creation for my late dad,’ Yusupha said.
Various speakers at the launch heap praises on the legendary singer who departed this life earlier this month and prayed for ‘his soul to rest in perfect peace.’
The Daffeh sisters fashion shop is located at Liberti Six in Dakar, Senegal. For the next 6 months, Tresor and L’ Excellence said it will continue to sell the “Yaye ak Baye Fall” collection to support the family of Musa Ngum.
