The re-emergence of traditional sounds in East African urban music

Venue:
Main theatre
Description:

“The only way young East African musicians will secure a distinctive identity is by embracing traditional music.” – words by prolific Kenyan producer Tabu Osusa. While southern African and West African music is making waves on the international market, various initiatives are striving to cultivate uniquely East African sounds by bridging the gap between digital and analogue as well as traditional music and contemporary sounds. This session will be led by Santuri Safari co-founder Mwalimu Gregg Tendwa, who has been very active in this field.
