YQ

YQ is Yakub Jibril, a Nigerian singer. Born in Ibadan, Oyo state in Southwest Nigeria, he hails from Kogi, a state in North-central Nigeria. YQ lists R. Kelly, 2Face, Born Jamericans and bob Marley as influences. His career began in 2002 when he was part of a group Q-Krest. The group was dissolved in 2004.

Five years later he went solo, working in the R&B genre when he was a rapper earlier. Since then he has released several singles and collaborated with a number of artists. He has been nominated in the Next Rated category at the Headies. His most popular song ‘Fimile’ received a remix featuring MI, Naeto C, Eldee the Don, Banky W, all ranking artists at the time.

In 2014 a record deal with Cadilly Entertainment and YQ was announced. A debut album, allegedly called ‘I am YQ’, is awaited.
