WOWRAE
Bio
Kudzai Vincent Muwori, professionally known as WOWRAE, is a dynamic 26-year-old Zimbabwean percussionist. Born and raised in Harare, Zimbabwe, WOWRAE was inspired to explore and learn the Marimba after watching his older sister play the instrument with her high school band. His fascination with marimba further developed during his formative years at Hartmann House primary school and later, at St George's College, in high school, where he began experimenting with the instrument by playing House and EDM songs. Later, he started recorded himself playing covers of popular EDM, Amapiano and House songs, which gained him traction in the last 5 years during the COVID-19 pandemic. What started as an idea in the high school marimba room eventually set him on a path of musical exploration.
With an impressive 15 years of marimba playing under his belt, WOWRAE pushes boundaries by infusing modern music genres, particularly AfroHouse. He plays AfroHouse music simultaneously with live marimba and traditional Zimbabwean instruments, as well as various other percussion instruments. His goal is to bridge the gap between Zimbabwean musical heritage and the contemporary sounds that resonate with diverse audiences.
He has also begun the journey of creating his own original AfroHouse music, with the marimba being the leading instrument. He records all marimba and percussion loops live in the studio.
WOWRAE has performed at numerous local events and festivals such as DWP 2024, Munch & Sip Bulawayo, Neverland, Miombo Magic Festival, Deep End, Oktoberfest, Stanbic Jacaranda Music Festival, Fiesta Fiesta, Castle Lite Nights, European Union National Day, Shoko Festival, Starlight Dancing, MadeHerBelieve’s: Varsity Tour, Miombo Magic Festival, and Mapopoma Music Festival. He has also performed regionally at the Lake of Stars in Malawi with the band Music According to Percussion.
WOWRAE has also worked and collaborated with several artists and musicians, including Othnell "Mangoma" Moyo, Shungudzo, Jah Prayzah, Gemma Griffiths, ISHE, Tahle WeDzinza, Chengeto Brown, and Sylent Nqo. He has also worked with DJs and producers such as Bam Bam Madame, BlawuMadeIt, MadeHerBelieve, Ron, Samuel Cosmic, Jason Le Roux, EX FX, & AneUnhu.
In addition to his career as a percussionist, WOWRAE is a part-time Marimba and percussion teacher at St George's College, AfriKera Arts Trust, and Peterhouse Boys' School. For the marimba ensembles he teaches, his creativity also plays a big part as he composes original marimba music for them.
His most recent single, which was released on the 9th of May, 2025. The song is all about expressing the love you have for your partner, and being honest about the vulnerability that comes with this true love. He is currently working on more music which will be featuring some well known artists and vocalists. This music will be released periodically for the rest of the year.
Fun fact: WOWRAE’s stage name originated from a nickname given to him by his friends in high school. It is a variation of his surname; Muwori.
