Weya Viatora

WEYA Marie Viatora is a Rwandan artist born in 1996. Deeply passionate about art, she believes that her work is a way to touch and heal people’s hearts. She began her artistic journey as a singer in 2015 with the release of her first single, Empty House, which aired on Voice of America and led to an interview with CNN. Since then, she has released numerous songs and is currently preparing to launch her second album.
Viatora has performed at various festivals and events both in Rwanda and internationally, including MASA (2024), Africapitales (2023), Atelier de la Pensée (2022), and Music for Africa (2022), among others.
In 2016, she expanded into theater, debuting in Mboka, a musical play directed by Carole Karemera. Since then, she has acted and sung in numerous theatrical productions. In 2019, she performed in Umurinzi, a play by Dorcy Rugamba staged during the 25th commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi. She also starred in Weya na Jules, a UNESCO short film promoting copyright awareness.
Her theater career includes tours with Kesho, an ecological tale, and Devil’s Gold, a play by Jules César Niyonkuru, presented during Africapitales in Paris and the Kigali Triennale. More recently, in 2024, she appeared in Ionesco and Zoo, both directed by Demarcy Mota.
In 2023, Viatora began composing music for film. She wrote original songs for Minimals in a Titanic World, which premiered at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival and has since been screened at numerous international film festivals and won the second prize for Best Music in the Imagine India International Film Festival 2025.
Currently, she serves as the Managing Director of Le K(ART)IER, a Rwandan art company that supports talented artists in creating professional opportunities and sustaining their careers.
