Wave Ryder

Bio

Wave Rhyder, whose real name is Thato Molupe, is a talented singer, songwriter, producer, and performer from Lesotho. Born in Morija, Lesotho, he developed a passion for music at a young age and was heavily inspired by his parents, who were gospel musicians. 

Wave Rhyder began making music around 2013 while still in school. He first gained recognition in Lesotho with his 2019 breakout song Ts’ela bo Tlale, which helped establish him as one of the country’s rising stars. His music blends Afro-pop, hip-hop, amapiano, and traditional Famo influences, creating a unique sound that connects with audiences across Southern Africa. 

In 2021, he signed with Ambitiouz, becoming one of the label’s artists introducing amapiano-inspired sounds into their catalog. Songs like Pula, Wa Nkutlwa Na, Dikeledi, Romeo, and Make Sense helped him grow his fan base in Lesotho and South Africa. 

Wave Rhyder is known for emotional storytelling, motivational lyrics, and proudly singing in Sesotho. His music often focuses on hope, perseverance, love, and everyday struggles. In 2022, his song Wa Nkutlwa Na received major attention and earned him recognition at the AFRIMA awards. 

In 2024, his album Manothi gained strong streaming success, especially on Spotify, showcasing his continued growth as one of Lesotho’s most promising modern artists.
