Vuyo Mbita
Bio
Vuyo Mbita is a rising South African singer-songwriter and producer whose Afro-pop and Afro-alternative sound is gaining recognition across borders. Born in Ncora, Eastern Cape, and now based in Thokoza, Ekurhuleni, his music is rooted in storytelling, cultural pride and emotional resilience.
Vuyo’s early musical inspiration came from his late grandmother, whose leadership in village celebrations nurtured his love for rhythm and community expression. Influenced by South African icons such as Brenda Fassie, Ringo Madlingozi and Ishmael, he blends modern African beats with raw emotional honesty, earning him the title “New Age Superstar”.
His breakout single “Emaweni” stands as a powerful anthem of resilience, reflecting his personal journey through hardship and hope. The song has resonated strongly with dreamers and hustlers, showcasing his soulful vocals and uplifting message. Other singles such as “Ndoni Yamanzi”, “Zuka” and “Nqanda” continue to build a catalogue centred on perseverance and heritage.
In 2025, Vuyo expanded his regional reach through “Ingoma”, a collaboration with Zambian hip-hop icon Ruff Kid. The track celebrates African unity and was accompanied by a visually striking music video directed by 2K Vaccine Film. The release marked a significant step in his growing visibility across Southern Africa. He has also collaborated with Ghanaian producer SK Rude Vibes on the singles “Follow Me” and “Fly Over Them”, both praised for their cross-cultural Afrobeat energy.
Currently, Vuyo is preparing his five-track Afro-alternative EP titled Echoes of the Soil. The project will blend Afro-pop, soul and experimental storytelling, exploring generational healing, cultural pride and emotional depth. Featuring layered vocals, live instrumentation and genre-fusing production, the EP will include a special collaboration with Annela Jahmela, whose poetic style complements Vuyo’s grounded intensity.
Beyond music, Vuyo Mbita positions himself as a creative leader and visionary, intentionally building collaborations that reflect his values and artistic direction. With a distinctive voice and a growing fanbase, he continues to shape a movement of hope, heritage and healing through sound and story.
