Vini Mercy
Bio
Vini Mercy is a hybrid multi practicing artist from Moyo in West Nile, Uganda, raised in Kampala.
Working across music, visual art, and performance, she is a singer, rapper, and self-taught painter
whose practice explores identity, heritage, and self-discovery. Rooted in the rhythms and stories of
her Madi ancestry, her work bridges tradition and contemporary expression, creating immersive
experiences that invite audiences into layered cultural narratives.
In 2024, she released her debut EP Nile’s Jewel, a project that extended beyond music into a full art
exhibition of the same name. This body of work marked a pivotal moment in her journey,
establishing her as an artist committed to blending sonic and visual storytelling. Her performances
have taken place on platforms such as Nyege Nyege Festival (10th Anniversary), Uganda Hip Hop
Awards, ONOMO Arts Experience, and AUMEX Showcase.
Through her work, Vini Mercy centers dark skin, feminine identity, and cultural memory, often
drawing from personal and collective histories. As she continues to expand her practice into film
and immersive performance, she positions herself as a distinctive voice in a new generation of East
African artists redefining how stories are told and experienced. She made her short film debut in 2023 with "Scold's
Bridle" and contributed performance references for the Disney animated series "Kizazi Moto." She is also a self-taught painter who began exploring visual art in 2022. She developed her unique style by learning from fellow artists. Her debut art exhibition, "Nile's Jewel," was launched on 30th August, 2024 at Vodo Arts Studio, Kampala, and ran until 27th September, 2024.
