Born on 10 October 2003, he grew up in a musically inclined family, a background that shaped his blend of melodic rap, trap and R&B. He describes his sound as “fate music”, rooted in honesty, hope and lived experience.
Usimamane first gained national attention in 2024 with the single “Cheque”, which achieved triple-platinum status in South Africa. Its emotional pull and memorable hook helped establish him as a rising voice in local hip-hop. His growing momentum was further recognised when Apple Music selected him as its Rap Life Africa featured artist in June of the same year.
He released his debut album 20th: Days Before Maud on 13 September 2024. The project broke Spotify South Africa’s record for the highest number of second-day streams at the time and introduced listeners to a broader range of his musical style. The album included “Uvalo”, featuring Sjava, which reached number one on local streaming charts and became one of his most notable early successes.
Usimamane’s appeal has extended beyond music through brand partnerships and collaborations with prominent artists. As his profile continues to grow, he is establishing himself as a significant new voice in South African hip-hop, recognised for his emotional range, distinctive melodic style and commitment to authentic storytelling.
