Ur Son

Bio

Ur Son (born Phemelo “Pimp” Kabelo Moagi) is a South African hip-hop and rap artist from Soweto, Johannesburg, whose music combines township storytelling with futuristic creativity. Emerging from Soweto’s growing trap movement, he has developed a distinctive sound that blends hard-hitting rap, melodic experimentation, and alternative hip-hop influences. His work reflects both the realities of urban youth culture and a forward-looking artistic vision rooted in innovation and self-expression.

Raised in one of South Africa’s most influential cultural centres, Ur Son was exposed to a diverse range of musical influences that helped shape his artistic identity. His journey is closely connected to the evolution of Soweto’s underground trap scene, a movement that has produced a new generation of independent artists redefining contemporary South African hip-hop. Inspired by both local culture and global trends, he has cultivated a style that balances authenticity with creative experimentation.

Ur Son officially began releasing music in 2023, introducing himself through a series of freestyle-driven tracks that quickly attracted attention within underground music circles. His growing catalogue explores trap, melodic rap, and alternative sounds, often incorporating themes of ambition, identity, resilience, and youth culture. Through consistent releases and collaborations, he has established himself as one of the emerging voices within South Africa’s independent rap landscape.

A defining element of Ur Son’s artistry is his visual identity. His releases are often accompanied by cryptic, cartoon-inspired cover artwork and animated visual content that merge digital culture with township aesthetics. This unique approach has helped him create a recognizable brand that resonates with audiences shaped by social media, gaming culture, and contemporary visual storytelling.

Throughout his career, Ur Son has collaborated with a range of emerging artists, including ASHENDREAMS, Loneboy Steezy, b0d0$kie, Lil $wagger, and ZET.N. These collaborations have expanded his creative range while strengthening his connection to South Africa’s evolving underground hip-hop community.

Beyond music, Moagi has built experience across several creative industries. In 2019, he contributed to television productions such as Speak Out, Nyan Nyan, and Kulture Kwest, gaining valuable experience in media production and content creation. Since 2022, he has also worked within the diamond industry through NLP Mineral College, specialising in diamond evaluation and handling. These diverse experiences continue to inform his artistic perspective and entrepreneurial mindset.

Ur Son’s growing profile has also intersected with cultural and lifestyle platforms connected to Red Bull events, Arnold Classic Africa productions, and youth-focused creative initiatives. As his catalogue continues to grow, he remains committed to pushing artistic boundaries while representing the creativity, resilience, and innovation of Soweto’s new generation.

With a sound rooted in township culture and a vision aimed firmly at the future, Ur Son is part of a new wave of South African artists shaping the next chapter of hip-hop through music, visual storytelling, and creative independence.
