Tumi Dibakoane
Bio
Tumi Dibakoane is a Pretoria-based guitarist and composer known for blending Afro-folk rhythms with jazz harmonies. Drawing inspiration from artists like Arat Kilo, Sibusile Xaba, Lionel Loueke, and Khruangbin, his music offers a rich tapestry of sound.
Beginning his musical journey in 2012 at the Artist Skill Development Institute (ASAI) in Mabopane, Tumi honed his skills in guitar and music theory. In 2018, he joined the band Bagantu, founded by Tshimologo Mamogale, where he contributed as a guitarist and composer.
In 2024, Tumi assembled a new ensemble featuring Katlego Katonist (violin), Thapelo Lephoto (cello/bass), Tshimologo Mamogale (percussion), and Fakazile (vocals). Their debut performance on 7 September 2024 at Ubuhlanti Corner in Pretoria was met with acclaim, showcasing a fusion of acoustic and electric instruments with contemporary folk energy.
Tumi's music continues to resonate with audiences, blending tradition with innovation.
