Tsvete

Bio

Hailing from Norton, a small town 44km outside Harare, Tsvete is a seven-piece outfit made up of Ashton, Mirela and Kondwani on harmonies and percussion, Charles (bass guitar), Munyaradzi (semi-acoustic guitar), Derick (drums) and Tatenda on keyboards. Their music is a unique, modern mixture of Afro sounds from Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe - a fusion of Afro-beat, contemporary jazz, traditional music and township jazz. The interplay of guitars and keyboard is central to their sound, while the lyrics and backing vocals tell real stories. In 2014 Tsvete launched their 13-track debut album, titled ‘Vavhimi', which celebrates African culture, people, community life and love.

Popular live performers with an energetic stage presence, Tsvete are the Friday resident band at the Pakare Paye Arts Centre (founded by Oliver Mtukudzi) in Norton. They have also performed at venues such as the Book Café and Jazz 105, and at festivals such as HIFA and the Chimanimani Arts Festival. They have shared a stage with Oliver Mtukudzi, Alexio Kawara, Willom Tight and Gary Tight.
