At the heart of this movement is the band’s namesake, Thamsanqa Ngwenya, whose journey began in the sacred space of his childhood church, singing alongside his mother. But it was the marimba—its ancient, resonant timbre - that truly captured his heart. Today, Thamsanqa is a passionate advocate for the instrument, working with Education Africa and the Marimba Education Foundation to share its transformative power with the world. His compositions weave together the familiar and the new, paying homage to African heritage while forging a bold path forward.
