Thami Shobede

Thami Shobede, born Simphiwe Thamsanqa Shobede, was a South African singer and songwriter best known for his powerful vocals and emotional performances. He was born and raised in Mtubatuba, KwaZulu-Natal, where his love for music developed at a young age. Despite facing personal and family challenges growing up, music became both an escape and a purpose for him, shaping his identity and future career.

Thami rose to national prominence in 2016 after competing on Season 12 of Idols South Africa. His soulful tone, stage presence, and heartfelt interpretations quickly won over audiences across the country. He finished the competition as the runner-up, earning widespread recognition and being affectionately described as having a “velvet voice.” His journey on Idols SA marked a turning point in his life and opened doors within the South African music industry.

Following the show, Thami pursued a professional music career and released his debut album, Never Lost. The project reflected his personal experiences, resilience, and artistic depth, blending elements of soul, Afro-pop, and R&B. His music resonated with fans for its honesty and emotional storytelling, and he was admired for staying true to himself despite the pressures of fame.
