Tebogo "Zombo" Ndlovu
Bio
Zombo: Kwaito Star and Producer Gone Too Soon
Tebogo Ndlovu, better known as Zombo (3 May 1979 – 17 February 2008), was a South African singer, rapper, and producer who made his mark with kwaito group Abashante. Known for his energy on stage and creative flair, he joined the group after their platinum debut Girls (1996) and contributed to albums like Settlin’ The Score; Ayoyo; and Intwenjani?.
After leaving Abashante, Zombo started his own label and pursued solo projects, including his self-titled album Zombo, which earned a 2003 SAMA nomination for Best Rap Album. Despite his talent, he faced financial struggles later in life and spoke openly about his hardships.
Zombo died in February 2008 from AIDS-related causes, just a month after revealing his HIV-positive status. Colleagues remember him as a rare talent: a singer, songwriter, and producer who could build a song from scratch and make it shine.
