Bio
Real name Mayihlome Tompson, Szn x is a, Afro-soul / Hip-hop musician based in Cape Town. His music career officially kicked off in 2022 with the release of his debut EP, Vigil Of The Twenties EP. The project introduced listeners to Szn x’s signature sound, characterized by melodies and intricate lyricism.
Before establishing a solo presence, Szn x was involved in Twenties, honing his craft as a songwriter/producer. During this developmental phase, they contributed to Vigil Of The Twenties , where they were recognized for their vocal range and production style. This early exposure helped shape the artistic direction found in his solo debut.
In 2023, Szn x collaborated with Yb Kid & Lil Cosy on the track We Gonna Get It. The collaboration was noted for its, Unique and modern sound and helped expand their reach within the Cape Town music scene. They have also been credited for their work on Black Season, where they explored themes of love and daily life in the city.
Following the momentum of his 2023 debut, Szn x released Love & Heartbreaks with YB Kid and Nande in 2024, then released another single with Yb Kid Called Ungubani Wena. This release earned him a place at Pointers Event, Broke Event and Saggy Tuesdays. Known for his, captivating live presence, they have shared stages with the likes of Base, Chasa, Scvtty and A-World.
Prior to his public debut, Szn x spent years honing his craft as an independent, self-taught producer. Operating primarily out of a home-based studio, he dedicated this period to technical experimentation and refining a signature sonic identity within the underground scene. This "DIY" era was crucial in developing their skills in sound engineering and vocal layering, allowing him to maintain full creative control over his compositions and arrangements.
In 2025, Szn x continued to evolve his sound with the release of Sorry on digital platforms. The track showcases his ability to blend Afrobeats, pop with hip hop, further establishing Szn x as a rising voice in the Pop and Hip hop, South African Alternative music landscape.
