Sydney Mthokozisi Nyoni – Bio
Born and bred in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Sydney Mthokozisi Nyoni is a musician, dancer, and actor who strives to represent the underdogs, inspire dreamers, and celebrate the human experience in all its forms.
Sydney first fell in love with rap and hip-hop at the tender age of eight. Because of his electrifying stage presence, his neighborhood peers nicknamed him “MJ,” inspired by Michael Jackson.
He later created his alter ego, Mega Meezy, when he formed the hip-hop duo KLOUD 9 KATS with Steno OG. During this time, he developed his craft and gained exposure alongside Bulawayo hip-hop icons such as the late Cal Vin, who collaborated with the duo on several songs, and Mlue Jay, who featured on their 2017 single “Mayor,” which received heavy airplay on Skyz Metro FM.
They also worked with Thorne on his Ghetto to Ghetto hip-hop tour. The successful release of the duo’s seven-track EP, This Is It, earned them recognition, particularly with the song “Bakithi,” which led to an interview with Nkosinathi “Khekhe” Khumalo and a nomination for Best Hip-Hop at the 2019 Skyz Metro Awards.
Feeling ready to embark on a solo journey, Sydney began creating a new sound — a fusion of kwaito, hip-hop, and amapiano. He collaborated with South African producer Seezus Beats SA on the single “Sandton,” which reached number one on the Skyz Metro FM Top 20 chart and remained there for several weeks. The song continues to receive airplay.
In 2022, Sydney worked with multi-platinum producer, SAMA nominee, and DJ Murphy Cubic on his first solo EP, Sikhanyisiwe (meaning “Enlightened”).
In 2024, he signed with Ambush Entertainment under POY for a year before becoming independent in June 2025. In 2026, Sydney collaborated with King Bil on the music video for “Ngomso.”
