Born Sonnyboy Micheal Makhutla, SV McCutler is a Johannesburg-based musician, songwriter, and visual artist whose creative approach blends storytelling, lyricism, and sonic experimentation. Known for his versatility, McCutler moves fluidly across musical landscapes, crafting records that merge hip-hop foundations with a wide spectrum of contemporary sounds, making him an artist who refuses to be boxed into a single genre.

Driven by a deep passion for music from a young age, McCutler began pursuing his craft professionally in 2014, dedicating himself to developing a distinctive voice both lyrically and artistically. His music is often shaped by personal experiences, resilience, and the realities of everyday life—elements that allow him to connect authentically with listeners while delivering compelling and thought-provoking entertainment.

His early breakthrough came in 2016 when he appeared on MVP Jam on e.tv, hosted by renowned radio and television personality Dineo Ranaka, where he emerged as the winner. This moment marked a pivotal step in his career and introduced his talent to a wider national audience.

Building on this momentum, McCutler debuted his single “Vodka” on YFM, one of South Africa’s leading youth radio platforms. The release preceded his 2019 debut project, The Introduction EP, which formally introduced his sound and artistic identity to the industry.

Continuing to expand his catalogue, he released his official single “Hunnid” on 19 October 2020, further solidifying his presence within the independent music space. His growing recognition also led to an appearance on the widely followed podcast Podcast and Chill with MacG, where he shared his journey and creative perspective with a broader audience.

Beyond music, McCutler has shown a strong passion for broadcasting and media. He hosted a hip-hop radio show titled “The 411 Spot” on Actonville FM, demonstrating his ability to connect with audiences not only as a performer but also as a cultural commentator and presenter.

In 2023, he released his EP Seasons, a project reflecting personal growth, evolution, and the changing phases of life and artistry. He followed this with his third EP, Common Issues, released on 13 February 2026, continuing to showcase his lyrical depth and sonic versatility.

With momentum building, SV McCutler is preparing to release his upcoming single “Wild Out” on 27 March 2026, with a fourth EP scheduled to follow soon. As he continues to evolve creatively, McCutler remains focused on pushing boundaries, exploring diverse musical influences, and delivering impactful performances that resonate across audiences.
