Sudplanète / Southplanet (SPLA)

Bio

Sudplanète is the largest database of artistes operating in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) regions. It is the primary source for information about artistes in the audiovisual, music, visual, performing and fine arts as well as arts and crafts and other cultural industries. Covering all disciplines and countries, Sudplanète is an ambitious project: a single, interactive database shared by all, serving all, which is multilingual and offers a series of services specially designed for professionals, while at the same time keeping the general public informed. On the Sudplanète portal, all artists, events, and organizations can manage their own information on a daily basis and take possession of their own files. The files are linked to one another and to cultural listings so that information is as complete as possible. Dispatches guarantee information in real time.

Sudplanète is constantly evolving: professional networking pages are also planned, classed according to activity and linked to information from the database. So too are numerous promotions services destined to assist the cultural milieu in its entirety: ultimately, all the Internet tools needed to promote activities and works will be freely accessible to all.

Africultures has been developing the Sudplanète database for over 10 years in an effort to collate and organize information and to support knowledge and recognition of contemporary African cultural forms. Financially backed in its early stages by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, today, Sudplanète is the database of the ACPCultures programme and thereby covers the 79 African-Caribbean-Pacific countries. Hosted by a high-capacity dedicated server, it has the potential to expand considerably and can be extended not only to all the countries of the South, but also to the diasporic elements of these cultures. Today it is the largest existing database in this field.
