Strut Records

Bio

Strut Records are a UK-based label specialising in new recordings by classic artists and compilations digging through the vaults for lost dancefloor gems, ranging from from 1970s Afrobeat to rare Italo-disco.

The label was originally formed back in 1999. Early albums included a live DJ set by Larry Levan from his famed residency at New York's Paradise Garage, a Grandmaster Flash original breaks mix and a mix by DJ Milo celebrating Bristol's original Wild Bunch sound system. From 1999-2003, the label became renowned for its uncompromising high quality packages documenting landmarks in the history of dance music, from Larry Levan's famed residency at New York's Paradise Garage to Grandmaster Flash's early Bronx block parties and original Nigerian Afrobeat classics.

Following !K7's acquisition and re-launch of the label in January 2008, Strut offered a regular schedule featuring fresh artist collections, new studio albums by dance music legends and the cream of the label's previous compilation brands, all A&R'd by Strut founder, Quinton Scott. Strut's recent releases include the music of Pat Thomas (Ghana), Orlando Julius (Nigeria) and Malombo (South Africa), as well as the compilation series 'Next Stop Soweto'.
