Based in Washington DC, U.S., Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage is an institute that is dedicated to the research, conservation and continuity of traditional knowledge and artistry. It also focuses on diverse contemporary cultural communities in the U.S. and around the world. It’s also known for producing the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, exhibitions, documentary films and and educational materials. It has many unique collections of music from Africa including Arthur S. Alberts Collection, Folk and Café Music of West Africa. It also has the UNESCO Collection of Music of the Central African Republic and recordings of Gambian Kora Duets and many more.
