Skwatta Kamp
Bio
Skwatta Kamp, the seven-member South African hip-hop crew, has been shaping township rap since 1996. Comprising Infa, Nish, Shugasmakx, Flabba, Nemza, Slikour, and Bozza, several members went on to solo careers, but the group’s legacy remains iconic.
They dropped four albums and a mixtape, starting with Khut En Joyn (2002). Mkhukhu Funkshen (2003) became a breakout hit, selling over 77 000 copies and earning critical acclaim. Washumkhukhu followed in 2004, with Fair And Skwear closing their studio discography in 2009. The group picked up multiple awards, including two SAMAs for Best Rap Album and a Channel O award for Best Hip-Hop Video.
Skwatta Kamp’s journey has also been marked by tragedy. Flabba was fatally stabbed in 2015, and Nish passed away from COVID-19 in 2021. Yet, the crew’s music and influence still reverberate through South African hip-hop, inspiring a new generation of artists.
