Sizwe "Reason" Moeketsi
Bio
Sizwe Moeketsi, popularly known as Reason, is one of South Africa’s most versatile and respected musicians, whose career spans hip hop, radio and the ever-evolving Amapiano movement. Born on 30 June 1987 in Tembisa and raised in Katlehong, Moeketsi’s journey reflects both the roots and the reinvention of contemporary South African music.
Reason first made his mark in 2004 when he appeared on YFM Radio, quickly earning a reputation as a sharp battle rapper with lyrical depth and technical skill. By 2005, he was recording professionally and steadily building a following, collaborating with artists such as Ms Nthabi, Stogie T, Moneoa, ProVerb, Kwesta, DJ Maphorisa and the late HHP.
His 2014 album Audio High Definition cemented his place in the hip hop scene, delivering standout tracks like “2Cups Shakur” and “Glasses to The Ceiling” featuring Locnville, and showcasing his ability to balance introspection with mainstream appeal.
In 2021, Moeketsi surprised fans by stepping boldly into the Amapiano space, adopting the alter ego Sizwe Alakine. The move signalled a creative rebirth, with the release of “Khanda Shisa” marking his transition into the genre and earning him a new generation of listeners.
Also known by aliases such as ReasonHD and gaaaAHDbody, Sizwe Moeketsi continues to redefine himself, proving that reinvention is not just possible, but essential in a fast-changing music industry.
