Siya Duma
Bio
Siya Duma is a saxophonist, session musician, private tutor and a member of Zakes Bantwini's band which is based in Durban.
He has travelled the world with different artists, sharing the stage with likes of Salif Keita, Usher, Anthony Hamilton, Kirk Whalum, to name but a few. He has recorded and performed with major artists in different RSA festivals namely, Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Macufe, Oppikopi and so on, sharing the stage with likes of Hugh Masekela, Ringo
Madlingozi, Judith Sephuma and Stimela to name but a few. In 2006 he had the opportunity to be part of the EThekwini All Star Band and played with the Brazilian band called 'Napalma' during their South African tour.
Besides working in the Jazz scene, he has worked in House music genre with the likes of Mimi K, DJ Tira, DJ Merlon and Bongi Dube to name but a few. He has also worked with several Gospel musicians but his latest involvement was with Vuka Afrika, second and third DVD live recording which was recorded at the Durban Playhouse in October 2007 and 201 2 respectively. He just returned from a national tour with Mafikizolo. His aim now is to concentrate on his projects and less on traveling. In 2020/21 he started working with progressive platforms who were doing virtual concert at Playhouse Company, Afrotainment, Mampintsha, KZN department of Arts and Culture, to mention a few.
He currently teaches music at DHS also he leads his own band that is based on different musical concepts. Among these concepts is Siya Duma and The Reunion Band, SD Group and Deep Native which is a House/Dance concept. In 2016 he was chosen to represent South Africa at Essence Festival in New Orleans, USA and been to China, many other countries. He is also founder of Long Walk Media, a new music company that is looking at recording new artists, film music, Live Music Events etc.
He is currently working on his debut album which will be independently released on 16 June
2022.
