Bio
Siphosethu Ngcetane, professionally known as Seth Singer, is a South African singer, songwriter, and performer based in Johannesburg. His musical journey began in the Eastern Cape, where he was raised by his grandmother while his mother worked in the city. Rooted in church and community, his early exposure to music came through gospel singing, school performances, and local youth showcases, laying the foundation for his emotive and spiritually resonant sound.
From a young age, Seth Singer demonstrated a natural inclination toward performance. He sang in Sunday school, performed for school transport peers, and participated in assemblies at institutions such as Rosneath Primary and Providence Academy. His early influences were shaped by both traditional gospel and contemporary South African sounds, fostering a versatile vocal style that blends Afro-pop, Afro-soul, and Amapiano elements.
He later refined his craft through formal training at the Market Theatre Laboratory in Johannesburg, where he developed both his musical and acting abilities. During this period, he gained exposure to the broader entertainment industry, further solidifying his commitment to a professional career in the arts.
Throughout his career, Seth Singer has collaborated and engaged with notable South African artists including Sjava, Emtee, Saudi, and Ruff. He also worked alongside the late Mapaputsi on a project that was featured on the SABC3 television programme Trending SA, marking an early milestone in his professional journey.
In 2023, he collaborated with Takunda under West One Music to release the album Amapiano EDS, a project designed for global publishing and sync opportunities. His music has since been featured across major platforms, including Netflix productions such as Blood & Water and Blood Legacy, as well as the South African film Meet the Kumalos. His song Joyful Celebration gained international recognition through its inclusion in the NFL’s “Born to Play” Super Bowl campaign in 2024.
Known for his ability to adapt across genres and emotional landscapes, Seth Singer’s music is characterised by its authenticity, storytelling depth, and cultural resonance. His work often reflects themes of perseverance, identity, and hope, drawing directly from his personal journey and lived experiences.
