Inception of Harmony – Nurturing Tomorrow’s Musicians

Inception of Harmony is a dynamic music ensemble and grassroots development platform, formed by a group of dedicated music tutors who identified the need to establish a foundation band for emerging student musicians. The group was co-founded by Prince Thokozani Rammala, Tshepiso Ledwaba, Aubrey Ndala, and later joined by Thapelo Mapotse—all driven by a shared passion for music education, mentorship, and artistic excellence.

What began as a supportive space for student performers quickly evolved into a vibrant musical movement. Through hosting annual jam sessions and ensemble showcases, Inception of Harmony created opportunities for learners—from small instrumental groups to full bands—to perform, collaborate, and gain meaningful stage experience. These sessions often featured workshops with celebrated musicians such as Nkosinathi Nkosi (Jay Sax), Tshepiso Ledwaba, Lunga Mngcina, Modise Matlala, and Lehlogonolo Ntsoko, providing invaluable mentorship and exposure to professional standards.

As the project matured, co-founder Tshepiso Ledwaba was awarded the opportunity to study at Oberlin Conservatory (USA) as a Piano Technician. While he pursued this path, Prince, Aubrey, and Thapelo remained committed to the vision in different ways. Prince and Aubrey went on to take up roles within the Directorate of Music at the University of South Africa (Unisa), where they continued nurturing the growth of young musicians through institutional support. Meanwhile, Thapelo Mapotse ventured into the business world, opening doors for others through entrepreneurial initiatives while staying true to his musical roots and continuing to support the vision of Inception of Harmony wherever he goes.

To keep the performance aspect of the project alive, Prince founded the live band Session Friends in 2019—an ensemble composed of past and current Inception of Harmony members. Since then, Session Friends has become the resident band, regularly performing on various stages and supporting new talent.

Today, Inception of Harmony functions as both a recruitment drive and a development platform, introducing young musicians—particularly from underserved communities—to Western art music, live performance culture, and professional musicianship. The collective remains fluid and inclusive, continuously welcoming new members and celebrating the progression of those who advance to new opportunities.
