Seinabo Sey

Bio

At 23, she’s already scored No.1 hits on Hype Machine and Shazam with her debut single “Younger” which was also streamed over 4 Million times at Spotify becoming Streamlight 2014 and another 4 million on her Soundcloud page.

Being a cultural ‘outsider’ was a creative blessing to her. Moving from Gambia to Sweden at the age of 8 became a culture shock to her but it made her analytical about how people feel. The experiences of two cultures gives her the inspiration for her music and writing because it made her very sensitive to think in which ways to get her message across best suitable for different cultures.

Having a hard time at school being different and it didn’t really get any better until she started with music. She was singing in the choir and this helped a lot. One day the music teacher got her to sing a duet with a friend of hers it was a break through experience. First she was very nervous, but the she pushed fears away because she loved to sing and she did. Today she always remembers how proud she was of herself that day.

Her dad being the famous West African musician, Mawdo Sey growing up surrounded by artistry and creativity, being around musicians all the time made her very impressed. She always wanted to be like him. Artists like Erykah Badu and Destiny's Child fueled her imagination, but she also gives props to CeeLo Green for his songwriting style.

First she thought of learning a "serious" job, but then she decided to move to Stockholm at the age of 15 and go to a music school. There she met Frank Noble, and started with the little group called Death Chronic. They made a couple of songs and got a little bit of attention in Stockholm. They blogged and posted it on Facebook. Sainabo decided tagging all the musicians she wanted to hear the song on Facebook. And there was this rapper that picked up on it and they became friends. Later they went on tour with him and she became a rap sidekick for a year. It was really random. He had a group producing a record with Magnus Lidehäll. Having her first single produced was kind of natural.

Today she is with Sweden Music. She has baged noumerous prices her songs were used for advertising purposes and she travels all over the world for her gigs. With her music she is trying to break genres, putting in as many influences form her life as possible and trys to keep it true to her idea with the lyrics, "it's mostly me trying to teach myself what I kind of wish somebody would have told me".
