Bio

Sbu Dludlu is a South African singer and songwriter from Duduza in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. He became widely known after appearing on the South African version of The Voice South Africa, where all four judges turned their chairs during his blind audition. He later joined Team Lira. 

Born on 19 November 1984 in Duduza, Sbu grew up in a musical family and developed his love for music through church and gospel influences, especially from his late mother, Sibongile Sibanyoni. His music blends soul, jazz, Afro-pop and African rhythms. 

Before his breakthrough on television, Sbu had already worked with respected musicians and producers including RJ Benjamin, who encouraged him to audition for The Voice. He has also collaborated and shared stages with artists such as Kelly Khumalo, Vusi Nova, Berita and the late HHP. 

In 2015, Sbu performed alongside James Ingram and Johnny Gill during their South African tour. He has also appeared at major events such as the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and Joy of Jazz. 

His debut album, Perseverance, reflects his personal journey, growth and love for family. Songs like Keitumetsi and Mtim’Omuhle were inspired by his daughters.

Born and raised in Duduza, Dludlu grew up surrounded by music. He often cites his maternal family’s love of singing as his earliest influence. When financial limitations prevented him from attending law school, he turned fully toward a musical career a path that blended passion with natural talent.

Dludlu’s breakout moment came with The Voice South Africa, where his performance during blind auditions impressed all four judges. Mentored by Lira, he advanced to the competition’s top 12. Although he did not win, the exposure opened professional doors, leading to live performances, collaborations, and coaching opportunities. 

He has lent his vocals to multiple studio projects, including “Ithuba Lami” 2019 with Mducomluv and “Yekela” alongside Bheki Nqoko. His repertoire spans soul, gospel, and contemporary pop influences, reflecting his versatility as both performer and arranger. 

In 2025, Dludlu hosted his “Grand 41st Birthday Celebration” at Carnival City’s New Orleans Cocktail Lounge a music focused gathering celebrating his career and community ties. He remains based in Johannesburg, performing and mentoring aspiring artists while expanding his creative footprint.
