Saul Madiope
Bio
Saul Madiope is an upcoming South African jazz artist born in Limpopo. Saul is named after his uncle who played a guitar. His journey into making jazz music doesn’t involve any formal training. It dates to when he attended festivals with his father, growing up and spending time with family with an album from South African trombonist, vocalist and composer Jonas Gwangwa, playing in the background.
He started posting videos on Instagram, playing the saxophone. Soon, a friend asked him if he’d like to play on an episode of SABC 1 TV show Generations: The Legacy, where eight million where streaming the show.This became a milestone for him, because it made people aware his unquie sound.
He has released the five projects: four of them were EPs and a debut alum called Motherland Jazz, which was inspired by his grandmother. He believes that African should us music as a way of telling their stories about their heritage and culture. He wants his music to stir peoples' emotions.
