Sands in Darkness

Sands in Darkness is a depressive black metal and ambient one-man band from Luanda, Angola. Formed in 2013 by the musician Infernal Rii's (also known as Sango Escocês), the project is notable for being one of the few black metal acts emerging from sub-Saharan Africa. 

Musical Style & Themes:

The band's music is characterised by a blend of depressive black metal (DSBM) and dark ambient textures. Lyrical themes typically focus on:

• Death and Suicide
• Nature
• Suffering (e.g., the track "Africa Suffering")

The project has released several EPs and singles, primarily through Bandcamp and labels like Depressive Illusions Records: 

• Native Blood (2014) – Split/Single
• Burning Earth (2015) – EP/Single
• Night Verses (2016) – EP featuring tracks like "Dying on the Water" and "Wonderland"
• Until The Last Light Goes Out (2018) – EP received positively for its compact songwriting and varied vocal styles
• Wounded Beyond the Flesh – Digital release 

Status:

While the band was active for nearly a decade, current records from the Encyclopaedia Metallum indicate the project split up in 2022.
