Samir LanGus
Bio
Samir LanGus is a Grammy-nominated musician from Agadir, Morocco, known for his modern interpretation of Gnawa music, a traditional Moroccan spiritual trance genre often called the "Moroccan Blues". He is currently based in New York City. Traditional Roots: He plays the sintir (also known as a guembri), a three-stringed, skin-covered bass lute, and uses qarqaba (metal castanets) to create hypnotic, rhythmic patterns.
Contemporary Fusion:
LanGus blends ancient North African sounds with jazz, electronic, and "NYC attitude", collaborating with artists to create a unique fusion.

He recently released his first solo album titled Gnawa Love in early 2026, which features the single "Trance"
Background:
LanGus was born and raised in Agadir and began learning the Gnawa tradition at age eight. He taught himself the sintir using YouTube videos before eventually moving to the United States after winning the Green Card Lottery. He has performed at prestigious venues and festivals, including Lincoln Center, Coachella, and Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
