The Recording Academy, officially known as the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc. (NARAS), is a prestigious American institution made up of musicians, producers, sound engineers, and other professionals across the music industry. It is best known as the organization behind the GRAMMY Awards, which celebrate outstanding artistic and technical achievements in music recognized around the world.
Beyond the GRAMMYs, the Academy plays a key role in preserving music’s legacy and supporting its creators. It co-founded the GRAMMY Museum, which is dedicated to music education and the preservation of cultural history, and established MusiCares, a charitable foundation that provides critical health and welfare assistance to members of the music community. The Academy also leads national advocacy efforts, promoting the rights and fair treatment of music creators at all levels of government.
