Ras Haitrm
Bio
Ras Haitrm is a reggae singer and musician from Maputo, Mozambique, known for blending conscious roots reggae with African rhythms and spiritual depth. Born in 1980 during Mozambique’s civil war, he grew up with music shaped by hardship, struggle and resilience. As a child, he was influenced by the music of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, which inspired his lifelong devotion to music and message-driven art.
He embraced Rastafari spiritually as a young adult, moving away from his early Christian upbringing to a lifestyle centered on Jah and community, a transition reflected in his music and lyrics. Ras Haitrm plays a variety of instruments including bass, percussion and traditional African instruments and began his musical career around 1998, first creating the band Roots.
His early work includes the album Life is Dangerous, recorded in Germany with the band Braintoasters, and later he formed Ras Haitrm and Word Sound and Power, producing albums like BStrong and Tough Road. His music video Not for Long topped music TV charts in Mozambique and across Africa.
From 2011 onwards, collaborations with Rastafari communities in Brazil led to albums such as Vibz Inna Braza, Zion Bridge and Serious Times. In 2016, he traveled to Jamaica and linked with the Firehouse Crew, resulting in the album Go and Tell the World released worldwide through VPAL Records.
Ras Haitrm is celebrated for his powerful uplifting lyrics about peace, unity, social justice and spirituality, and he has performed at major festivals and stages across Africa, Europe and Brazil.
