ProZal is a production company associated with the Congolese band Zaïko Langa Langa, established in the early 1980s to support the band’s recordings and distribution. It played an important role in promoting the innovative style of Zaïko, which emphasized youthful energy, fast-paced rhythms, and modernized soukous arrangements.
Key figures associated with ProZal include Nyoka Longo, a founding member and bandleader of Zaïko Langa Langa. Known for his charismatic stage presence and compositional skills, Longo helped develop the distinctive style of the band in the 1980s, which combined rapid guitar lines, dance rhythms, and inventive vocal harmonies. Bimi Ombale, a vocalist and composer, was also integral to Zaïko’s success during this period, known for his energetic performances and innovative arrangements that contributed to the band’s widespread popularity in Central Africa. Papa Wemba, one of the most influential Congolese musicians of the late 20th century, began his career with Zaïko Langa Langa before founding his own band, Viva La Musica. He played a major role in popularizing soukous internationally and became a global ambassador for Congolese music and “La Sape” fashion culture.
