Prince Sguri

Bio

Prince Sguri is a South African gospel hip-hop artist recognised for blending powerful Christian messaging with the authenticity of street-rooted hip-hop culture. As part of the growing Christian hip-hop movement, he merges rap with faith-based storytelling to create music that is both spiritually grounded and culturally relevant.

Raised in Daveyton, Prince Sguri has shaped his identity around resilience. His nickname, “Sguri” — Joburg slang for “fighter” — reflects a life marked by overcoming adversity and transforming struggle into purpose through music. A defining turning point came when he gave his life to Jesus Christ, an experience that profoundly reshaped both his personal journey and artistic direction.

His sound is a distinctive fusion of hard-hitting hip-hop beats and Zulu vernacular, underpinned by themes of faith, hope and redemption. He has performed widely across churches, schools, concerts and community outreach initiatives, including prison programmes. His mission remains clear: to use hip-hop as a vehicle to lead people to Christ while remaining relatable to the streets.

Despite facing significant challenges — including poor management and mishandled or miscredited releases — Prince Sguri has continued to refine his craft and rebuild his career with intention. He is currently working towards establishing his own label, God Pen Records, signalling a broader vision not only for his own growth but for creating opportunities for others within the space.

His impact within South Africa’s Christian hip-hop scene continues to grow. He has been nominated at the Crowns Gospel Music Awards and featured on platforms such as Jam Alley. Beyond performance, he actively contributes to the community by hosting and participating in events like “Kumnandi ku Krestu”, as well as mentoring emerging gospel rappers.

Notable tracks include “Sinqobile”, a triumphant anthem centred on victory through faith.

Prince Sguri is not driven by fame alone; his work is rooted in purpose, using music as a form of ministry. His journey stands as a compelling example of authenticity, resilience, and the power of building something meaningful even in the face of setbacks.
