Pretty & The Music

Bio

Pretty & The Music

Pretty is a witty, mischievous, unwavering, linguistic and free spirited soul. A talented playful life force with aspirations of accomplishing extraordinary things and making a difference to society and the world, no matter how big or small. She is a social entrepreneur, brand manager, poet and vocalist. Born kwaMashu, raised in iMbali, Pietermaritzburg by a force of strong women in the forefront, she has always been an explorer. She’s an Integrated Marketing Communications (specializing in Brand Management) graduate from the AAA School of Advertising, JHB.

She is the owner of an integrated marketing communications agency, specializing in brand management called hot toffee communications and founder of a Pietermaritzburg arts initiative called Kwasuka Sukela (which means once-upon-a-time). Delivering tales through our varied art forms and continuing to use art as a weapon in uplifting local talent, fighting social injustices and empowering our community.
Her passion for communications stretches across the board. From journal entries, musical lyrics, poetry, creative writing and storytelling to strategies, marketing plans, proposals, company/artist profiles, contributions to industry articles and press releases. With what seems like lifelong experience of creative expression, she realised her creative writing flair at a young age and has been mesmerized by writing ever since she can remember. Writing provides a sort of escapism for her, she writes to enlighten, tackle and address life’s issues whilst infiltrating positive messages to those willing to be moved.

Delivered flamboyantly and conscientiously, her writing is inspired by her curiosity about people and passion for life. In the recent years she’s combined her love for music, married it with her first, poetry and goes by the name: Pretty & The Music, accompanied by guitar and percussion. Their eclectic sound zig-zags across a number of genres including African rhythm, soul, jazz, rhythm and blues, all with a underpinning undertone of poetry. They also work with local bands to form a 4 – 6 piece, depending on the specifications and resources of each project/event.
