Nico Carstens
Bio
Nico Carstens was born in Pretoria, where he developed an early interest in music. His upbringing played a key role in shaping his innovative approach to traditional Afrikaans instrumental music.
He became a leading figure in Boeremusiek, revolutionising the genre through the incorporation of jazz and Latin influences. His work expanded the possibilities of accordion music in South Africa.
Carstens recorded extensively and performed both locally and internationally, gaining recognition for his technical skill and musical innovation.
His live performances included festivals, orchestral collaborations, and broadcast concerts, showcasing his versatility.
He passed away in 2016 in Pretoria, leaving behind a lasting legacy in instrumental music.
