Neo Makwa

Neo Makwa (born January 11, 1991) is a South African record producer, songwriter, and music artist hailing from Katlehong in the East Rand, Gauteng, South Africa. He is the founder of Umzonkonko Music, a creative label and sonic movement known for blending modern South African music styles with hip-hop, house, and kwaito influences.

Makwa began producing music while still in high school, cultivating a skill that would shape his career as one of South Africa’s respected producers and hitmakers. Over the years, he has worked with major artists in the country and has produced music that has resonated strongly in Mzansi’s music landscape.

He gained widespread recognition for producing notable tracks — contributing to hits that helped elevate the profiles of artists across genres. In 2025, Makwa released the single “Umguzumbane We Summer” featuring Kwesta and Ovii Mathandos, a track that highlights his innovative sound and artistic evolution.

Beyond the studio, Makwa’s work through Umzonkonko Music champions new sounds and artists in the South African scene, bringing fresh energy and creative direction to contemporary music culture.
