Bio
Mthandeni SK was born Mthandeni Sibusiso Manqele on 24 April 1988 in Mtubatuba in KwaZulu-Natal. He is a South African Maskandi musician and songwriter, also known by the stage names Igcokama Elisha, Indlabeyiphika and King Duyaza. He has built a strong following for a style that blends traditional Zulu musical expressions with modern production.
He began releasing music in the early 2010s and has since recorded a substantial number of albums, including Amagolide, I Thousand, Idog Style and Amakhothangqoko. His 2023 single “Paris” became one of the biggest commercial hits in Maskandi history. It was certified multi platinum and earned him the Record of the Year award at the thirtieth South African Music Awards, making him the first Maskandi artist to win the category.
In 2024 he released the single “Gucci”, featuring MaWhoo. The song reached high chart positions in South Africa and abroad and further expanded his mainstream profile. In 2025 he released a four track EP titled Front Seat, which demonstrated his ability to grow his sound while maintaining a strong cultural identity.
Mthandeni SK has also invested in community development. In 2024 he launched the annual Mthandeni Summer Experience in eMdletsheni in KwaZulu-Natal. The festival is intended to celebrate Maskandi music, support local artists and connect fans to his home community.
He continues to be one of the leading figures in the modern Maskandi landscape, known for innovation, consistency and a deep respect for Zulu musical heritage.
