Mr Kangaroo

Mr Kangaroo, born Malibongwe Manana is a comedian, rapper from the Kingdom of Swaziland. He was born in Manzini but raised in Baberton, South Africa by his dad and stepmother. He went back home in 2012 and now lives in Ngwane Park. He fell in love with music when he was 13 years old and his favorite artist at the time was Pitch Black Afro. The Shongwe & Khuphuka Gospel Group also had an influence in his music career. He draws his music inspiration from his mom, the struggles and the hardships he endured while growing up. He joined a group of Swazi artists who have taken pride in their cultural heritage and infused siSwati lyrics in their music.

In 2006, he decided to pursue music as a profession and went by the stage name ‘Command Bullet’. He describes his music as "Swazi Swag music" because most locals can identify it. He joined Claiming Grounds Records, a record label where the likes of Nomalungelo and Msimisi got their foundation. He joined the stable because he believed it was one place that could propel him at a level he wishes to be.

Three years later, he dropped his single titled ‘Shapa Kangaroo’. He named the song Shapa Kangaroo because the single somewhat had a kangaroo style to it. Since then, everyone started calling him Kangaroo.

His second single ‘Nitashkuma’ reached the first spot in SBIS 2 Top 20. It became the centre of debate when people began debating as to who was the best hip-hop artist if he was to be compared with Qibho and Diba Diba.

In 2015, he was nominated for the National Arts and Culture Awards in the Popular Artist of The Year category.
