Moticoma is a traditional Mozambican band founded in Maputo in 2001. The name was formed from the surnames of the initial members of the group. Their music expresses themes that show realities of African societies, translated into languages of Banthu origin: Ronga, Changana, Shope and Sena. Moticoma uses instruments like mbira, nhunganhunga, timbila, djembe, Mozambican traditional batuques in fusion with modern instruments like drums and bass. Their performances are high energy which gets the audience on their feet.
