Mofolo Park, located at 1209 Mzilikatse Street in Soweto, is one of the township's most significant green spaces and cultural hubs. Historically known as the "Five Roses Bowl", it serves as a central venue for community gatherings, major music festivals, and recreational activities.

• The Cultural Bowl: This iconic outdoor amphitheatre, famous for its rainbow-painted proscenium arch, is the park's centerpiece. It has hosted legendary local and international jazz, gospel, and pop performances.
• Recreation & Fitness: The park features an outdoor gym, walking and cycling lanes, and a full-size soccer field. It is a popular spot for the weekly Mofolo Parkrun held every Saturday morning.
• Family Amenities: There are designated areas for picnics and braais, as well as a fenced children’s playground with swings and slides.
• Cultural Context: The park is part of the Soweto Art Mile, a cultural stretch that connects landmarks like the home of Dr. Robert Sobukwe and the Soweto Theatre. 

Historical Significance

• Origins: Established in 1954, the park was named after Thomas Mofolo, a renowned Sotho author and educator.
• Transformation: Before becoming a lush green oasis, the site was a rubble dump. Its transformation into a park was part of a major community project to create safe recreational space for residents.
• Legend: Local folklore once told of a "child-eating snake" living in the overgrown reeds of the Klipspruit river that runs through the park, which led to significant clearing and landscaping to make the area more welcoming.

• Music Festivals: The park is the long-time home of various Jazz Festivals and was the site of the inaugural Drum Beat concert in 2011.
