Mkavita

Mkavita is a dyslexic thinker who believes in the power of Music Therapy to harness great
change in the world. She uses music as her voice to be the change she desires to see. She is
a vocalist, an alto saxophonist and Chivoti player (a traditional flute from the Digo people of
the coastal region of Kenya).
She received her professional musical training from Kabarak University where she acquired
a Diploma in Music and a bachelor’s degree in music theory and composition. She also
obtained a certificate in Grade 4 Music Theory from ABRSM. She is professional master’s
degree holder in Psychological Intervention for Learning disabilities.
She is an aspiring event organiser, who has organised 3 yearly music concerts from 2022 to
2023. The first concert was on July 24th, 2022. This concert was staged at the Kenya
Conservatoire of Music in association with her friend Resila Muganda. The concert featured
an afternoon of Classical, Pop and Jazz Music in an endeavour to display the various musical
genres that they had learnt in school that appeal to a large audience in Nairobi. The second
concert was the launch of her debut Extended Playlist (EP) entitled “Shadows”. It was a
promotional concert for she EP and it featured a few songs from the EP. The third concert
was the launch of Jazz Simplified. Jazz simplified is platform curated by Mkavita to provide
young and upcoming jazz musician an opportunity to share their love and passion for jazz
music. The Vision of Jazz Simplified is to make jazz music easier, simpler and enjoyable for
the Kenyan audience with the aim of making Kenya a hub of Jazz music. Moreover, she
plays the alto saxophone in various ensembles namely: Junior Chamber Orchestra and
Pat.co the band. Her music catalogue from 2021 to 2024 consists of the following: Love
